Background

The Sylmar Converter Station, used as a high voltage transmission facility to supply power to the greater LA area, incurred severe damages during the Loma Prieta earthquake. Renovation work included the redesign and upgrade of the Sylmar Station’s Valve Hall, Control Room and Auxiliary Area. Services included preparation of P&ID diagrams for valve halls and control/Aux area; revising heating, cooling load, and equipment sizing calculation for Valve Hall; review and revise the existing system and structural design specifications for Valve Hall and Control Room and Auxiliary Area systems; review and revise existing Valve Hall and Control/Aux HVAC Systems Instruction Manuals and; revised all LA DWP piping layout drawings for the Valve Hall upgrades.
